This trip established the model of future Sacred Parks trips to come: 1) visit multiple parks in the same trip, 2) focus on one "flagship" park by engaging with the community around it, and 3) observe the theme and "effect" of the journey. The trip began in San Francisco, with a visit to Muir Woods, then moved south via the central California valley to the dock for Channel Islands National Park in Ventura, CA. Boarding a ferry boat to Santa Cruz Island, Paul stayed there for three days. He then drove to Joshua Tree National Park and preached at a two-point parish in Twentynine Palms, before spending two days in Death Valley NP on his way back to San Francisco.
Parks Visited: Muir Woods National Monument, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Golden Gate Park, Channel Islands National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Kelso Sand Dunes, Death Valley National Park, and Big Basin Redwoods State Park
Flagship Park: Channel Islands National Park, Santa Cruz Island, 11 miles off the coast of California
Theme/s: "The House [i.e. Creation] Usually Wins", "The Birgitta Dilemma" and the beginnings of "Journey vs. Destination"
